CELEBRATING 125 YEARS

"Exceeding the Vision While Honoring the Past"

img-carnegie-library.jpg

IN THE BEGINNING WAS A “SCHOOL”

John Wesley Davison, leader of the Founders of Fort Valley Normal and Industrial School, on November 6, 1895, eighteen men, fifteen blacks and three whites, petitioned for a charter to legalize the school. In 1939, Fort Valley State College was introduced through the foundation laid by our Founders.

CELEBRATING QUASQUICENTENNIAL

This year marks the 125th anniversary of the founding of what is now Fort Valley State University. In 2020, we will celebrate 125 years of academic excellence. While much has changed since the school’s founding in 1895, Fort Valley State University continues to empower people to use education as a pathway to maximize their potential through invention, intellectual fulfillment, civic leadership, and meaningful careers. Founded 125 years ago as a bridge to prosperity for the first generations of free black men and women in America and continuing a legacy of producing leaders in a broad range of fields critical to human advancement, FVSU’s legacy is built on the belief that EVERY human being is entitled to limitless learning, regardless of the circumstances of its birth.

The 125th Anniversary Scholarship Campaign, “1000 Wildcats Giving $125”, was launched on August 9, 2020 and continued through November 2020. Many Wildcats, friends and supporters gave generously to this campaign. While we did not quite meet our fundraising goal, thanks to you, we raised $72,297. With matching fund contributions totaling $30,000, we are pleased to report a grand total raised of $102,297

Specifically, the following areas have been identified to receive the proceeds:

Response to the ongoing threat of losing students who are in good standing, but face the possibility of ending
their college careers due to shortfalls of only a few hundred dollars.

  2. General Scholarship Fund

Initiative provided by the Fort Valley State University National Alumni Association, Inc. through this fundraising, recognizing students who aspire to complete their education at FVSU and strive to serve as positive role models and change the trajectories for their families, friends and their communities. There is a Scholarship Committee that will create the scholarship criteria and selection of those students that meet those requirements. The scholarship information will be distributed through the university email serve to the current students.

  3. Cooperative Development Energy Program (CDEP) Scholarship Fund

The Fort Valley State University Cooperative Developmental Energy Program has one of the best track-records in the nation for recruiting minorities and women in science and engineering disciplines.

  4. Athletic Scholarships (Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Track/Field and Tennis)

Initiative provided by the Fort Valley State University National Alumni Association, Inc. through this fundraising, supporting the non-revenue generating sports team, which includes Men’s & Women’s Basketball, Track & Field and Tennis.

The Fort Valley State University National Alumni Association, Inc. Presents "The 12 Days of Giving". We understand that many of you have giving and may feel taxed this year in our request. This campaign is geared toward alumni that hasn't given and was unable to give the requested $125 can give in this campaign. The purpose of this campaign is to increase alumni and FVSU supporter donations to the University, while promoting personal connection to FVSU after graduation. From December 1–December 12, communications will be blast daily with each of the 12 Days of Giving "themes" and alumni will be encouraged to make relatable donations to the University through the account of their choice. The goal is for every alum to give back on each of the twelve days or at a minimum make a contribution to the University at large during the campaign. Spreading the donations out by theme ensures that a broader range of fundraising efforts are supported which all benefit our student Wildcats now.
